Round Square is an international network of like-minded schools which subscribe to tenets of the educational philosophy espoused and developed by Kurt Hahn, the founder of Gordonstoun School, Schule Schloss Salem and a number of others. In a diversion from the British public school model which focussed on the development of character and the education of gentlemen, Hahn's schools focussed on developing individualism, confidence and rigour with the capacity to survive and adapt in difficult conditions within a progressive education system.
His philosophy has come to be codified in the IDEALS of the Round Square association which now comprises some 200 member schools from around the world. Many still adhere to the stricter aspects of the Hahn approach whilst others have implemented a modernised adaptation to suit their student body. Round Square has become the mark of some of the world's best schools with many leading independent schools and international schools becoming members.
