Founded in 1971, New York Interschool is a network and consortium of some of the leading private schools in New York City and serves to support the mutual development, administration and staffing needs of its eight member institutions. It is unique, as compared to other such consortia, in it's focus on the development and training of faculty staff. In addition to the eight member schools, the consortium works with a number of associated schools.
Whilst the consortium is intended to act as an administrative and networking organisation, many consider it's member schools to represent the best independent secondary schools in New York City and as peers to the great schools of the United States, including leading New England college-preparatory schools, such as those of the Eight Schools Association and the Ten Schools Admissions Organization and international peers such as the English public schools of the Eton Group and Rugby Group. Many of the member schools and associate members compete in the Ivy Preparatory School League athletic conference or the Athletic Association of Independent Schools.
