The Global Alliance of Leading-Edge Schools (GALES) was founded in 2011 by the prestigious Singapore school, Raffles Institution, who played host for the association's inaugural conference - TiltShift 2011. Raffles Institution is a member of the Winchester Network and participates in the annual Winchester Symposium conference, a network of leading, academically rigorous schools, and many of the GALES schools have also participated in those conferences.
It is an informal network with GALES conferences (which take place under the TiltShift brand) seek ing to explore issues affecting the world at large and, by extension, impacting on schools and education on a global scale, assessing best practices, new approaches and potential synergies. One such initiative borne of GALES members, for example, is the Water is Life Association spearheaded by Raffles Institution and Maurick College and which includes an assortment of leading schools from around the world, including a number of other GALES members.
The GALES Schools are considered to be amongst the elite schools in their respective jurisdictions and are recognised as such by their peers.
