Gresham's School

Gresham's School is situated near the North Norfolk coast, an area of outstanding natural beauty and one of the most popular tourist areas in the entire country. The school was established in 1555 as a free grammar school instructing young men in the classics in order to prepare for entry into the ancient universities. The school was placed under the administration of trustees of the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers, one of the oldest City livery companies in London. Many of the livery guilds were, and still are, responsible for the administration and oversight of the great public schools with places being offered to the sons of wealthy merchants as well as to local pupils, often from poor backgrounds. The school is now fully co-educational and offers both day and boarding options and admits children from pre-school to sixth form. The school has a particular reputation for country pursuits and shooting and maintains its own lodge at Bisley.
