Two venerable institutions, The Birch Wathen School (founded in 1921) and The Lenox School (founded in 1916) merged in 1991 to consolidate their expertise and endowments in order to continue to serve the young men and women of New York City with the provision of a college-preparatory education from ages 2-18. The school competes in a variety of interscholastic sports as a member of both the Independent Schools Athletic League and the Girls Independent School Athletic League - divisions of the New York State Association of Independent Schools Athletic Association.
