The Ivy Preparatory School League


The Ivy Preparatory School League (as distinct from the separate Ivy League university conference) is an athletic conference consisting of eight private day schools in New York City offering varsity competition in a range of sports for both boys and girls. Many of the participating schools are members or associates of the prestigious New York Interschool network.

One of the oldest schools in North America, Collegiate was established by the Dutch West India Company in 1628 to prepare boys for college entry with a classical, latin education in keeping with the endowed free schools of the United Kingdom. Founded as the Children's University School by acclaimed educator Helen Parkhurst, The Dalton School has grown to become one of the most famous names in American education, originating The Dalton Plan system of education . Known simply as "Fieldston", the school was established in 1878 by Felix Adler who spearheaded the Ethical Culture Movement, himself a graduate of Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School. Fieldston has long-been associated with the secular Jewish community in New York City but welcomes pupils of all creeds and none. The school is well-regarded as academically rigorous.

One of New York's better known schools, Horace Mann has a reputation for excellence, as evidenced by the school's high success rates in placing pupils at Ivy League and other top-tier universities.
